Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Up Your Ledger Wallet

Before setting up your Ledger device, you'll need to install Ledger Live, the official app for managing your crypto assets.

For Desktop Users: Visit the Ledger Live download page and select the appropriate version for your operating system (Windows, macOS, or Linux).
For Mobile Users: Download Ledger Live from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).

Once installed, open the app and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the initial setup.

Nano X: Connect your Nano X to your computer or mobile device using the provided USB cable. The device will power on automatically.
Nano S Plus: Connect your Nano S Plus to your computer using the supplied USB cable. The device should display "Welcome to Ledger Nano S Plus."
Ledger Stax: Press and hold the right-side button for 1 second to power on the device.

Your device will prompt you to set a 4–8 digit PIN code. This PIN is essential for accessing your device and confirming transactions.

To Set the PIN: Use the device's buttons to select each digit and press both buttons to confirm.
Confirm the PIN: Re-enter the PIN when prompted to confirm.

This phrase is the only backup of your private keys. Losing it means losing access to your assets.

Display the Recovery Phrase: Your device will display each of the 24 words one by one.
Record the Words: Use the recovery sheet provided in the box to carefully write down each word in order. Double-check spelling and sequence once you've noted all 24 words.
Confirm the Recovery Phrase: The device will ask you to confirm the words by selecting them in the correct order.

After confirming your recovery phrase, the device will finalize the setup process.

Completion: Once setup is complete, the device will display "Your device is ready."

Ledger devices support a wide range of cryptocurrencies. To manage a specific asset, you'll need to install its corresponding app.

Open Ledger Live: Navigate to the "Manager" section.
Install Apps: Find and select the app for the cryptocurrency you wish to manage (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum). Click "Install" to add it to your device.
Access Apps: After installation, open the app on your Ledger device to start managing your assets.

To manage your assets in Ledger Live, you'll need to add accounts for each cryptocurrency.

Add Accounts: In Ledger Live, go to the "Accounts" section and click "Add account." Select the cryptocurrency and follow the prompts to add the account.
Manage Assets: Once added, you can view balances, send/receive transactions, and manage your assets directly from Ledger Live.

Never Share Your Recovery Phrase: No legitimate service will ask for your recovery phrase. Keep it secure and private.
Use Official Sources: Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger website or trusted app stores.
Regular Backups: Consider creating a backup device using your 24-word recovery phrase to ensure access in case of loss or damage.

If you're migrating from a software wallet:

Set Up as New: Initialize your Ledger device as new to generate truly offline private keys.
Transfer Assets: Send your assets from the software wallet to the new addresses generated in Ledger Live.
Verify Transactions: Always verify transaction details on your Ledger device's secure screen before confirming.

To create a backup device:

Use Recovery Phrase: Set up a new Ledger device using the same 24-word recovery phrase.
Access Assets: The backup device will have access to the same accounts and assets as the original device.

Zero Balance: If you see a zero balance after restoring an account, ensure you're using the correct recovery phrase and that Ledger Live is updated.
Device Not Recognized: Try using a different USB cable or port. Ensure your device's firmware is up to date.
App Installation Issues: If an app fails to install, check your device's available memory and try again.
